We mourn the passing of eminent novelist Rabeya Khatun
Rabeya Khatun was born on 27 December 1935, in Bikrampur. She was a journalist, an eminent writer and a teacher. Her notable novels include Shaheb Bazar, Ananta Anwesha, Shalimarbagh Rajarbagh, Ferari Surjo, Onek Joner Ekjan, Jiboner Ar Ek Naam, Dibos Rojoni, Bayanno Golir Ek Goli, Baganer Naam Malnichara, Ei Birohokal, Basanta Villa, Malinir Dupur, Akahse Akhono Anek Tara, and many more. She wrote numerous screenplays for television and radio and at least three of her books were adapted for cinema. For her contribution to Bengali literature, Rabeya Khatun received the Bangla Academy Award, Lekhika Sangha Award, Nasiruddin Gold Medal, as well as the Ekushey Padak in 1993 and the Independence Day Award in 2017.
