The 3rd night of the Bengal Classical Music Festival 2016 opened on 26th November at Army Stadium, Dhaka.

The first performance was on sarod by students of Bengal Parampara Sangeetalay. The students were Kamal Jahir Shamim, Khandakar Shamsuzzaman, Md Ilias Khan, Illham Fuljhuri Khan, Ishra Fuljhuri Khan, Sharif Mohammad Khan and Al Junayed Didar. They played a composition on Raga Kafi. Pinu Das Sen and Ratan Kumar Das accompanied them on tabla during the performance. Pundit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, the guru of these students expressed his optimism about the bright future of his students and felicitated them after the performance. Artist Hashem Khan handed over the crest to the 7-year old Ishra Fuljhuri Khan, the youngest artistes of this year’s festival.

The second performance of the night was a beguiling Carnatic flute rendition by Shashank Subramanyam. He performed Raga Poorvikalyani, a raga similar to that of Puriya Kalyan from the same region. His mesmerizing performance ended with melodious traditional compositions. Satyajit Talwalkar was on tabla, Parupalli Phalgun on mridangam and Elvin Majumder was on tanpura during the performance. Architect Kashef Mahboob Chowdhury handed over the crest to the artistes.

The third performances of the night was by Dr. Prabha Atre. She performed Khayal in Raga Shaym Kalyan and Raga Madhurokosh. Madhurokosh is her own creation. After that she performed Dadra Nayki in Raga Kanada. Chetna Banawat accompanied her on the vocals. In the end, she performed Bhajan in Raga Bhairavi.  Rohit Majumdar played the tabla while Prashanta Bhowmik played the harmonium. At the end of the performance, actress Ferdousi Majumdar handed over the crest to performing artiste.

The fourth performance, tabla recital by Pundit Anindo Chatterjee. Accompanying him was his son Anubrata Chatterjee. The duo presented Uthan, Peshkar, Kaida, Gatt and Chakradar in Teen Taal with Murad Ali Khan, who accompanied them on sarangi. The artistes received crests from AKM Mozammel Haque, Honorable Minister for Liberation War Affairs.

Dhrupad was next. Pundit Uday Bhawalkar at first presented Dhrupad on raga Abhogi Kanada. Later he performed Bardhini, a South Indian Raga. Pratap Awad accompanied him on pakhawaj.  Avijit Kundu and Tinku Kumar Sheel were on tanpura. Mahfuz Anam, Editor of the Daily Star handed over the crest to the artistes.

After that, Pundit Sanjoy Bandopadhyay presented Raga Shahana Kanada on sitar. He also presented a composition called Pilu Jongla. Parimal Chakravarty accompanied him on table. Elvin Majumdar and Samin Yasar were with him on tanpura. The artiste received the festival memento from Shahidullah Khan Badal, publisher of the New Age.

The final performance of the night was Ustad Rashid Khan’s Khayal. He at first presented Raga Lalit. This was followed by Charukeshi and Thumri. Accompanying him were Pundit Shuvonkor Banerjee on table, Krishna Bogane on vocal, Ajay Joglekar on harmonium, Murad Ali Khan on sarangi and Elvin Majumdar and Samin Yasar on tanpura. Chairman of Bengal Foundation, Abul Khair handed over the crest to the artistes.

The 4^th day of the festival will start at 7pm on 27^th November and will continue till 5 am of 28^th November. The following performances will be presented: Kathak (dance) by Munmun Ahmed and troupe; Tabla by Nilesh Ranadive; Khayal by Jayateerth Mevundi; Duet (Tabla) by Pt Yogesh Samsi and Pt Subhankar Banerjee; Duet (Carnatic vocal) by Ranjani & Gayatri; Sarod by Pt Tejendra Narayan Majumdar and Khayal by Pt Ajoy Chakrabarty.

Stalls at the festival include both book stalls as well as vendor stalls offering food and beverage.  The stalls are offering ICE Media magazines and books published by Bengal Publications, Daily Star Books and Prothom Alo. The food stalls include North End Coffee Roasters, Lucknow, Chaap Station, Bistro E and Paturi.  Aranya, Bengal Café, the Bengal Film Development Forum and BRAC Bank ATMs are also present on the festival grounds. Journalists should be pleased to find access to free WiFi.

Square Group is presenting the Bengal Classical Music Festival as the title sponsor. BRAC Bank is supporting the event as the main sponsor. For the last four years, the Bengal Classical Music Festival has been the largest classical music event in the subcontinent showcasing performances from over two hundred classically trained singers and dancers. With the goal to popularize and perpetuate the practice of classical music, this festival will go on till November 28th. The event this year is dedicated to the memory of versatile author and poet Syed Shamsul Haq (1935-2016).

এর তৃতীয় দিনের আয়োজন পাঁচ দিনব্যাপী বেঙ্গল উচ্চাঙ্গসংগীত উৎসবের তৃতীয় দিনের আয়োজন শুরু হয় ২৬ নভেম্বর শনিবার সন্ধ্যা ৭টায় বনানীর আর্মি স্টেডিয়ামে। শুরুতেই বেঙ্গল পরম্পরা সংগীতালয়ের শিক্ষার্থীবৃন্দ দলীয় সরোদ পরিবেশন করেন। শিক্ষার্থীরা হলেন মো: কামাল জহির শামীম, খন্দকার শামছুজোহা, মো.ইলিয়াস খান, ইলহাম ফুলঝুরি খান, ইশরা ফুলঝুরি খান, শরীফ মুহাম্মাদ আরিফিন রনি ও আল জোনায়েদ দিদার। তারা রাগ কাফি পরিবেশন করেন। তবলায় ছিলেন পিনু সেন দাশ ও রতন কুমার দাশ। পরিবেশনা শেষে বেঙ্গল পরম্পরা সংগীতালয়ের গুরু ওস্তাদ তেজেন্দ্র নারায়ন মজুমদার শিল্পীদের অভিবাদন জানান এবং শিক্ষার্থীদের হাতে উৎসবের সম্মাননা স্মারক তুলেন দেন চিত্রশিল্পী হাশেম খান। এরপরের পরিবেশনায় বাঁশির সুরে দর্শক-শ্রোতাদের মুগ্ধ করেন শশাঙ্ক সুব্রহ্ম্যণন। তিনি রাগ পূরবী কল্যাণী বাজিয়ে শোনান। তারপর ট্র্যাডিশনাল কম্পোজিশন বাজিয়ে শেষ করেন তাঁর পরিবেশনা। শিল্পীর সঙ্গে তবলায় ছিলেন সত্যজিৎ তালওয়ালকার, মৃদঙ্গমে পারুপল্লী ফাল্গুন ও তানপুরায় এলভিন মজুমদার। পরিবেশনা শেষে শিল্পীর হাতে উৎসব স্মারক তুলে দেন বিশিষ্ট স্থপতি কাশেফ মাহবুব চৌধুরী। রাতের তৃতীয় পরিবেশনা ছিল ড. প্রভা আত্রের। তিনি প্রথমে রাগ শ্যাম কল্যাণে ও পরে রাগ মধুরো কোষে খেয়াল পরিবেশনা করেন। এর মধ্যে মধুরো কোষ তাঁর নিজস্ব সৃষ্টি। এরপর কানাড়া রাগে পরিবেশন করেন দাদরা নায়কি। আর সবশেষে রাগ ভৈরবিতে ভজন গেয়ে শোনান। তাঁর সঙ্গে কণ্ঠে সহায়তা করেন চেতনা বানওয়াত। তবলায় ছিলেন রহিত মজুমদার এবং হারমোনিয়ামে প্রশান্ত ভৌমিক। পারফরম্যান্স শেষে এই গুণী শিল্পীর হাতে উৎসবের স্মারক তুলে দেন অভিনয়শিল্পী ফেরদৌসি মজুমদার। চতুর্থ পরিবেশনায় মনোমুগ্ধকর তবলা বাজিয়ে শোনান পণ্ডিত অনিন্দ্য চট্টোপাধ্যায়। তিনি তিনতালে উঠান, পেশকার, কায়দা, গৎ ও চক্রাদার পরিবেশন করেন। পরিবেশনা শেষে শিল্পীদের হাতে সম্মাননা স্মারক তুলে দেন মুক্তিযুদ্ধ বিষয়ক মন্ত্রী আ. ক. ম. মোজাম্মেল হক। তবলার পর ধ্রুপদ নিয়ে মঞ্চে আসেন পণ্ডিত উদয় ভাওয়ালকার। প্রথমে তিনি আভোগী রাগে ধ্রুপদ পরিবেশন করেন। পরে দক্ষিণী রাগ বর্ধিনী পরিবেশন করেন। এ সময় তাঁকে পাখাওয়াজ বাজিয়ে সঙ্গ দেন প্রতাপ আওয়াদ। তানপুরায় ছিলেন অভিজিৎ কুণ্ডু ও টিংকু কুমার শীল। পরিবেশনা শেষে স্বনামখ্যাত এই শিল্পীর হাতে উৎসবের সম্মাননা স্মারক তুলে দেন দ্য ডেইলি স্টার পত্রিকার সম্পাদক জনাব মাহফুজ আনাম। পরবর্তীতে সেতারে রাগ সাহানা কানাড়া বাজান পণ্ডিত সঞ্জয় বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। তারপর পিলু জংলা পরিবেশন করে শেষ করেন তাঁর পরিবেশনা। সেতারের সঙ্গে তবলায় সঙ্গ দেন পরিমল চক্রবর্তী। তানপুরায় ছিলেন এলভিন মজুমদার ও সামিন ইয়াসার। বাদ্য শেষে শিল্পীকে উৎসব স্মারক দিয়ে সম্মান জানান নিউ এইজের প্রকাশক শহীদুল্লাহ খান বাদল। তৃতীয় দিনের সর্বশেষ পরিবেশনা ছিল ওস্তাদ রাশিদ খানের। উনি শুরুতে রাগ ললিত পরিবেশন করেন। বিখ্যাত ঠুমরী ‘ইয়াদ পিয়া কি আয়ি’ পরিবেশনের মাধ্যমে তিনি শেষ করেন পরিবেশনা। অসামান্য সংগীতের সঙ্গে তবলায় তাল দেন পণ্ডিত শুভঙ্কর বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। ভোকালে ছিলেন কৃষ্ণা বোগানে, হারমোনিয়াম অজয় যোগলেকার, সারঙ্গিতে মুরাদ আলী খান এবং তানপুরায় এলভিন মজুমদার ও সামিন ইয়াসার। শিল্পীর হাতে উৎসবের সম্মাননা স্মারক তুলে দেন বেঙ্গল ফাউন্ডেশনের চেয়ারম্যান জনাব আবুল খায়ের। ২৭ নভেম্বর চতুর্থ দিনের উৎসব শুরু হবে সন্ধ্যা ৭টায়। চলবে পরদিন ভোর ৫টা ১০ পর্যন্ত। চতুর্থ দিনের উৎসবে অংশ নেবেন মুনমুন আহমেদ ও তাঁর দল ‘রেওয়াজ’(দলীয় কত্থক নৃত্য), নীলেশ রণদেব (তবলা), জয়তীর্থ মেউন্ডি (খেয়াল), পণ্ডিত যোগেশ শামসি ও পণ্ডিত শুভঙ্কর বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় ( যুগলবন্দি তবলা), রঞ্জনী ও গায়ত্রী (কর্ণাটক কণ্ঠসংগীত যুগলবন্দি), পণ্ডিত তেজেন্দ্র নারায়ণ মজুমদার (সরোদ) এবং পণ্ডিত অজয় চক্রবর্তী (খেয়াল)। সংগীত উপভোগের পাশাপাশি শ্রোতাদের জন্য খাবার ও পানীয়ের ব্যবস্থা রয়েছে উৎসব প্রাঙ্গণে। এছাড়া বিভিন্ন স্টলে পাওয়া যাবে আইস মিডিয়ার ম্যাগাজিন ও বেঙ্গল পাবলিকেশনসের বই। রয়েছে ডেইলি স্টার বুকস ও প্রথমা। এছাড়া অনুষ্ঠান প্রাঙ্গণে আরও রয়েছে অরণ্য, বেঙ্গল ক্রিয়েশনস, ম্যাংগো মোবাইল, বেঙ্গল ইনস্টিটিউট অব আর্কিটেকচার, ল্যান্ডস্কেপ ও সেট্‌লমেন্ট এর প্রদর্শনী ‘আগামীর ঢাকা’। আছে ব্র্যাক ব্যাংকের এটিএম বুথ। সাংবাদিকদের জন্য থাকছে ওয়াইফাই জোন। বেঙ্গল ফাউন্ডেশন আয়োজতি বেঙ্গল উচ্চাঙ্গসংগীত উৎসব ২০১৬-এর নিবেদক স্কয়ার গ্রুপ। আয়োজন সর্মথন করছে ব্র্যাক ব্যাংক লিমিটেড। অনুষ্ঠানে সম্প্রচার সহযোগী মাছরাঙা টেলিভিশিন। মিডিয়া পার্টনার আইস বিজনেস টাইমস। আতিথেয়তা সহযোগী র‍্যাডিসন হোটেল। সার্বিক সহযোগিতায় বেঙ্গল গ্রুপ। অনুষ্ঠান আয়োজিত হচ্ছে বেঙ্গল ডিজিটাল, ম্যাংগো, বেঙ্গল পরম্পরা সংগীতালয় ও পারফেক্ট হারমনি প্রোডাকশনস্ সিঙ্গাপুরের সহযোগিতায়। ইভেন্ট ব্যবস্থাপনায় ব্লুজ কমিউনিকেশনস। গত চার বছর ধরে আয়োজিত ‘বেঙ্গল উচ্চাঙ্গসংগীত উৎসব’ শিল্পী ও দর্শকের অংশগ্রহণের নিরিখে এরই মধ্যে এই উপমহাদেশে তথা বিশ্বের সর্বাপেক্ষা বড় পরসিরে উচ্চাঙ্গসংগীতের আসর হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি পেয়েছে। এ বছর উৎসবটি উৎর্সগ করা হয়েছে সব্যসাচী লেখক সৈয়দ শামসুল হকের (১৯৩৫-২০১৬) স্মৃতির উদ্দেশ্যে। ছবি: বেঙ্গল ফাউন্ডেশনের সৌজন্যে
