Eminent writer Rashid Haider passes away

We mourn the passing of eminent writer Rashid Haider.
Rashid Haider was born in 15 July 1941, at the village of Dohapara in Pabna. He completed his post-graduate studies in Bengali literature from Dhaka University. After some encouragement by his elder brother Zia Haider, Haider began his career at ‘Chitrali’ magazine while he was still a university student. In 1964, he worked as the Assistant Editor of ‘Parikram’ magazine. He joined the Bangla Academy in 1972 and retired as its Director in 1999.
Haider was adorned with many prestigious awards and honours throughout his career. He received the Bangla Academy Award (1984), Ekushey Padak (2014), Humayun Qadir Award and Agrani Bank Award, amongst others.
Rashid Haider passed away on Tuesday, 13 October 2020, at the age of 79.
