We mourn the passing of Renowned classical singer Prabha Atre

It is with deep sorrow that we bid farewell to the legendary Dr. Prabha Atre, a stalwart in the world of classical music. She breathed her last on Sunday, January 14, at the age of 92.
Dr. Prabha Atre was a distinguished classical vocalist, one of the senior musicians of the Kirana Gharana in India. She began her training under the guidance of the late Sureshbabu Mane and his sister, Padma Bhushan Hirabai Barodekar. Dr. Atre has been known to draw inspiration from renowned maestro, Ustad Amir Khan and Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, but has exhibited innovation and creativity in her music, establishing herself as a notable vocalist in the realm of classical music. Dr. Atre’s musical discipline ranges from genres which include Khayal, Thumri, Dadra, Ghazal, Natyasangeet, amongst others. She graced the stage at the Bengal Classical Music Festival in 2016.

Dr. Prabha Atre is a recipient of the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Kalidas Samman, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and Tagore Akademi Ratna.
