We mourn the passing of the eminent Rabindra Sangeet artist Mita Haq.
Mita Haq rose to prominence in the 90’s, with her first album ‘Amar Mon Mane Na’. Her mellifluous voice and excellent enunciation won the hearts of listeners worldwide. In an illustrious career spanning five decades Haq lent her voice to over 200 albums. She received the Ekushey Padak in 2020 for her contribution to music.
Born in 1962, Mita Haq received training from maestros such as the Late Waheed Haq, Sanjida Khatun and Ustad Mohammad Hossain Khan. She had been a regular performer in Bangladesh TV and Betar since 1977.
Mita Haq was the Founder Director and Teacher of the music training and performance troupe Shurotirtha and was the Head of the Department of Rabindra Sangeet at Chhayanaut in Dhaka. She was also the former General Secretary and incumbent Vice-President of the Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parishad.
Mita Haq passed away on Sunday 11 April 2021, at the age of 59. She leaves behind a rich legacy and will be greatly remembered by thousands of music-lovers.
