Subir Nandi passes away at 66

Bengal Foundation mourns the passing of Subir Nandi.
Subir Nandi was a renowned Bangladeshi singer. Born in Sylhet, he recorded his first song, Jodi Keu Dhup Jele Dai, written by Mohammed Muzakker and composed by Ustad Mir Kasem, in1972. Nandi went on to record over 2,500 songs throughout his career. Some of his most popular songs include Tumi Emoni Jaal Petecho Shongshare, Amar Ei Duti Chokh Pathor To Noi, Bondhu Hote Cheye, Brishtir Kachh Theke, Hazar Moner Kachhey, Koto Je Tomake Besechi Bhalo, Paharer Kanna, Sei Duti Chokh, Keno Bhalobasha Hariye Jay, Bondhu Tor Barat Niya, Pakhire Tui, Ekta Chhilo Sonar Konna, and O Amar Ural Ponkhire, amongst many others.
Nandi went on to sing for numerous notable films such as Mahanayak (1984), Simana Periye (1985), Ammajan (1999), Srabon Megher Din (1999), Megher Opare Megh (2004), Shudha (2004) and Shasti (2006).  He also sang Nuzrul songs on radio quite regularly during the 80s.
Subor Nandi is a five time recipient of the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer (1984, 1986, 1999, 2004, 2015), four time recipient of the Bangladesh Film Journalist Association awards (1977, 1982, 1985 and 1986), Citibank Lifetime Achievement award 2012, and the Ekushey Padak in 2019.
