Jamdani Festival 2019 closing ceremony
Jamdani Festival, jointly organised by National Crafts Council of Bangladesh and Bengal Foundation, originally set out to celebrate the proud heritage of Jamdani weaving in Bangladesh, and demonstrate the outstanding skill and artistic finesse of present day weavers.
Through the efforts of the Festival we are pleased to announce that we have received confirmation from World Crafts Council that Sonargaon has been designated as a ‘World Craft City’. It is the first time that a Bangladeshi region has received this honour. We hope this recognition will aid in ensuring sustainable livelihoods for not only weavers, but all artisans involved in the crafting of the loom and implements and the intricate pre-weaving processes. We would like to thank the Government of Bangladesh and local authorities for aiding us in our endeavour.
As the Jamdani Festival comes to an end, the close of the event will be marked by awarding certificates to the participating weavers in recognition of their unparalleled skill. The Hon’ble Minister for Ministry of Textiles and Jute Mr Golam Dastagir Gazi (Bir Pratik), MP, has kindly agreed to be present as the Chief Guest and give away the certificates.
You are cordially invited.
