Pt Samaresh Chawdhury
(8 September 1955 – 13 June 2019)

Bengal Foundation mourns the passing of Pandit Samaresh Chawdhury.

Pandit Chawdhury was one of the finest exponents of the Rampur Senia Gharana. He had his initial training in Dhrupad and Khayal from his father, Sangeet Acharya Amaresh Chandra Chawdhury, and later on sharpened his skills under the able guidance of Pandit Ravi Shankar. Gifted with a mellifluous voice, he had a rare and enviable command over his medium of expression. Although he was greatly influenced by legendary figures such as Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan, Ustad Amir Khan and Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, Panditt Chawdhury was successful in crafting his own distinctive style of rendition.
