Bengal Foundation mourns the passing of Mobarak Hossain Khan

We mourn the passing of Mobarak Hossain Khan.

Khan was a Bangladeshi musicologist, musician, and writer. He was the son of Ustad Ayet Ali Khan, and belonged to a family of musicians which also included Ustad Dr Alauddin Khan, Ustad Dr Ali Akbar Khan, Annapurna Devi, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Aftabuddin Khan and many others.

Throughout his career, he served as Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Chairman of Nazrul Institute, and worked for numerous renowned organisations including Bangladesh Betar for three decades. Khan has also extensively travelled the world as a leader of cultural delegation, an expert on radio, Saarc, Unesco, and classical music.

Khan has also been widely published. Some of his publications include Sangeet Prasanga, Baddojontro Prasanga, Sangeet Malika, amongst many others.

Mobarak Hossain Khan was a recipient of the Ekushey Padak (1986), Independence Day Award (1994), and Bangla Academy Award (2002). He passed away on 24 November, 2019, at the age of 81. We will remember him for his contribution to the realm of music.
