Murshida Arzu Alpana

b. 1961, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Education: BFA in Drawing & Painting, Institute of Fine Arts University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, 1977-83; MFA in Painting, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, India, under the guidance of Prof. KG Subramanyan, 1986-88; BFA (Experimental Painting) 1997, and MFA (Experimental painting) 1998, HdK, FB-1, Berlin, guided by Prof. Karl Horst Hödicke, 1996-97.

Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Award for Best in All Media in the annual exhibition of Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, 1983; Best Overseas Artist Award in Oil, ROSL Golden Jubilee Trust, London, UK, 1992; Prize in Watercolour, 7th & 8th Annual International Exhibition of Miniature Art, Toronto, Canada, 1993; DAAD Scholarship, Berlin, Germany, 1993-95; Commission of silkscreen prints edition, 3. Graphikprize of Griffelkunst, Hamburg, Germany, 1995. Honoured as most distinguished artist to the Centenary Reception at the St. Jameses Palace by ROSL, UK, 2010; Meet Factory Artist Residence in Prague, CZ, 2010; Diploma of Excellence Award by Art Now 3 in UK, 2010;

Present position:

Honorary Professor at the University-UODA, Dhaka; lives and works both in Dhaka and Berlin, Germany.
