Kanak Chanpa Chakma is a freelance visual artist based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, in 1986, which was followed by a fellowship at the Penn State University in 1993–94. Her paintings are a vivid portrayal of the lives of the Chakma tribe who inhabit the Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. The daily lives of the tribal community, their struggles, tribulations and happier moments, and the unique landscape, are central themes in her work. Chakma’s artistic vision lends unique insight into her land and the people.
The artist’s works have been widely exhibited. Among many honours and awards, she was nominated for the Sovereign Asian Art Prize 2020, Hong Kong.
