Amitabha Banerjee

Amitabha Banerjee was born in 1929, in Barishal, Bangladesh. His family moved to West Bengal following Partition. He studied at the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata.  Banerjee’s expressionist objectivism is compounded by concealed forms and a dramatic play of light and shade. An excellent printmaker, he was also a founding member of the Society of Contemporary Artists, Kolkata. Banerjee received the AIFACS Award (1976), the Birla Academy of Art and Culture Award (1978) and the Lalit Kala National Award. He passed away in 2013.
