A distinguished member of the contemporary art movement as well as a one of the students of the first batch of Dhaka Art Institute, artist Bijan Choudhury passed away on March 16, 2012. Even though he left Bangladesh in 1958, he maintained strong ties with his compatriots. He developed his own style of expression in his art which helped establish him as a painter in the region. Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts was pleased to pay homage to this revered painter through a solo exhibition of his paintings titled, ‘Tribute to Bijan Choudhury’. Professor Anisuzzaman inaugurated this exhibition on Tuesday, 22 May, 2012 at Bengal Shilpalaya at 6 pm. Artist Qayyum Chowdhury and artist Debabrata Chakrabarty of Kolkata spoke on the occasion.
