Bengal Art Lounge presents
Threads of Testimony
From 16 August, Bengal Art Lounge invited the public to THREADS OF TESTIMONY, a three week solo exhibition on the paintings, drawings, installations and video-works of celebrated artist DILARA BEGUM JOLLY. This exhibition explored major themes that recur through the artist’s entire body of work: the particularities of the feminine condition, its confrontation with dominant orders, its tension with motherhood..
THREADS OF TESTIMONY also gave special focus on the the condition of women in the garment industry, a theme DILARA BEGUM JOLLY has been increasingly exploring in the past years. Entirely in black and white and displaying several site-specific installations, THREADS OF TESTIMONY striked the eye by its formal and visual boldness.
THREADS OF TESTIMONY was inaugurated on 16 August at 6pm and continued until 4 September 2014. It was open daily from 12pm to 8pm.

This new exhibition further explores major themes that recur through the artist’s entire body of work: the particularities of the feminine condition, its confrontation with dominant orders, its tension with motherhood… THREADS OF TESTIMONY also gives special focus on the condition of women in the garment industry, a theme that DILARA BEGUM JOLLY has been increasingly exploring in the past years. Entirely in black and white and displaying several site-specific installations, THREADS OF TESTIMONY strikes the eye by its formal and visual boldness. The only touches of color in the exhibition come from the artist’s video-works. DILARA BEGUM JOLLY’s use of the camera is documented by her practice as a performance artist and some of her video works are conceived as performing acts enhanced by the multiple possibilities of digital recording. The results are gripping and constitute a major addition to the artist’s cross-genre approach. THREADS OF TESTIMONY is a new milestone in the long-standing relationship between DILARA BEGUM JOLLY and Bengal Foundation. Over the years, Bengal Foundation has had the opportunity to work with Jolly in countless group exhibitions, numerous art camps, a successful solo exhibition at Bengal Shilpalaya in 2006 and during the production of a documentary film on her work. A gallery dedicated to new artistic researches and formal expressions, Bengal Art Lounge is thus extremely proud to present THREADS OF TESTIMONY to the public. The opening ceremony of THREADS OF TESTIMONY took place today, Saturday 16 August at 6:30pm. Celebrated artist Ferdousi Priyobhashini was present as the chief guest. Anthropologist and activist Saydia Gulrukh was present as the special guest. The exhibition will then continue until 4 September and will be open daily from 12 to 8 pm.
