The Creative Mind

The Creative Mind was a tribute to Nitun Kundu’s artistic commitment, from his student days onwards to the peak of his career. Nitun Kundu (b. 1935, Dinajpur) graduated from the Government Institute of Art in 1959. His life as an artist, entrepreneur and designer was studded with honours. Starting with the National Award in Painting (1965), he went on to receive a gold medal in painting in the Mobile Art Exhibition (1968), Bangladesh Charushilpi Sangsad Award (1993), Ekushey Padak (1997), Bangladesh Business Award (1997), Mercantile Bank Industrial and Business Award (2005) and Group Theatre Federation Award (posthumous, 2007). He was ten-time winner of the best award for pavilion design at the Dhaka International Trade Fair. His major commissions include design and erection of the Indira Mancha at Suhrawardy Udyan (1972), Shabash Bangladesh (1992) at Rajshahi University, SAARC Fountain (1993) at Sonargaon crossing, Dhaka, and Sampan (2001) at Chittagong Airport. Through ground-breaking work he established Otobi, a leading furniture manufacturing concern.
