Play / Lila

Play Lila brought together a group of artists from Commonwealth South Asia and its diaspora, whose work references the layered technique and imagery of the miniature. Painters Abdus Shakoor and Shishir Bhattacharya were chosen to represent Bangladesh at Play Lila.
Abdus Shakoor practices a kind of narrative painting that combines elements from folk tales, myths and ballads, and places them in a pictorial frame reminiscent of medieval illustrated manuscripts.
Shishir Bhattacharjee’s paintings are known for their unique blend of modernist and post-modernist sensibilities and for their satiric projection of political and social preoccupations of our time. The exhibition was organized in collaboration with the Australian Embassy in Dhaka.
