Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts, in collaboration with the Canadian High Commission, Dhaka, hosted a two-week long solo exhibition of Canadian resident artist A K M Alamgir Huque titled, ‘Nature-Offerings’ with the inaugural ceremony on 8 July 2009, Tuesday at 6 pm at Bengal Shilpalaya.
H. E. Mr. Robert Medougall, High Commissioner of Canada in Bangladesh, was present as the Chief Guest and inaugurate the exhibition. Eminent artist Aminul Islam was present as the Special Guest.

Nature-Offerings displayed a radical shift from Alamgir’s previous traits. Most of the works here were executed in a non-objective format, in an abstract-expressionist vocabulary. His work is mostly frontal- the action is confined to the foreground with only hints of the outside environment.

Alamgir (b. 1953, Dhaka) did a BFA from the Bangladesh College of Arts and Crafts, Dhaka, in 1975 and obtained an MFA in Printmaking from the M S University of Baroda, India, in 1979 . He received the Mini Prints International Award, Barcelona (1995), Best Printmakers Award in the Young Artists Art Exhibition (1979) and the Best Printmakers Award in the Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka (1972-75). Alamgir moved to Canada in the early nineties and there he received the Sasketchwan Arts Board Individual Assistance Grant. He is a full time studio artist.

আলমগীর হক কানাডাপ্রবাসী শিল্পী, দীর্ঘদিন থেকে বিদেশে। তিনি যখন দেশে ছিলেন তখন তাঁর ছাপচিত্র কুশলী হাতের স্পর্শে প্রাণময় হয়ে উঠেছিল এবং ধারাবাহিক চর্চার মধ্য দিয়ে ছাপচিত্রে আশ্চর্য দক্ষতাও তিনি অর্জন করেছিলেন। তখন তাঁর চিত্রেও নানা গুণের সমাহার হয়েছিল। বুনন, রং ও পরিপ্রেক্ষিত নির্মাণে তিনি সিদ্ধহস্ত হয়ে উঠেছিলেন। আলমগীর হকের এই প্রদর্শনীতে তেলরঙের কাজ আছে, অ্যাক্রিলিকেরও কাজ আছে। এই শিল্পীর প্রবাসেও দু-দশকের চিত্রসাধনা যে কত গহন ও বৈচিত্র্যসন্ধানী হয়ে উঠেছে তা খুব সহজেই চেনা যাবে। নিসর্গের অনুপুঙ্খ বিষয়াবলি তাঁর সৃষ্টিগুচ্ছে উপেক্ষণীয় হয়নি। সৃজনের জন্য তাঁর উন্মুখতা, বিষয়কে নিয়ে ভিন্ন পরিপ্রেক্ষিত নির্মাণ ও বিমূর্তায়নেও কীভাবে তিনি ছুঁয়ে যান এদেশীয় অনুভব তার বিবরণে ঋদ্ধ হয়েছে এই প্রদর্শনী। আধাবিমূর্ত ও বিমূর্ত রীতিতে তিনি নিসর্গকে তাঁর সৃষ্টিতে ধরে রেখেছেন। সৌন্দর্যের অন্তর্নিহিত অনুষঙ্গগুলো খুব সূক্ষ্মভাবেও পরিস্ফুট হয়েছে। বিদেশে দীর্ঘদিন অবস্থানের ফলে তাঁর আন্তর্জাতিক বোধও যে কতভাবে পরিগ্রহণপ্রয়াসী তাঁর সৃষ্টগুচ্ছে তারই স্বাক্ষর আছে।
