For over two decades, Bengal Foundation, a private trust for the arts that is based in Dhaka, has been active in supporting visual art, music, literature and performance in Bangladesh. In recent years, the Foundation has also begun to work with film-makers and traditional craftspersons. With the continued support of the Foundation’s originator, Abul Khair, the Foundation strives to support both the commercial and the artistic aspirations of artists, writers and performers.

An important component of Bengal Foundation’s work in the arena of visual art is that of collecting and commissioning pieces. As a body of work, the Bengal Foundation Collection represents an ever-expanding and increasingly comprehensive survey of Modern and Contemporary art from Bangladesh. ‘Monochrome’ presents a survey of monochromatic works in the Bengal Foundation Collection by artists from Bangladesh and India.
