Microtears

About অমরার-আখ্যান/microtears
In a striking statement from an artist who was once chiefly recognised by her brightly-hued paintings, in অমরার-আখ্যান/microtears Dilara Begum Jolly constructs a monochromatic universe, made up of audio-visual installations, photographic drawings and video, to which we are invited to share the artist’s own, complex, emotional responses to vulnerability.

About the artist
Dilara Begum Jolly (b. 1960, Bangladesh) studied painting and printmaking at Government Arts College, Chittagong (BFA 1981); the then Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka (MFA 1984); and Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan, India (Post Dip. 1991). While still a student, Jolly first begann to express her strong awareness of the many imbalances and vagaries of society. Notably so in an early group show by nine artists in 1983. This continually expanding and developing awareness remains a primary element of Jolly’s work, which she now creates with a variety of different media.
