Jean Dometti
‘I move forward like an archaeologist digging through time. I do not paint human figures, but human beings are present in my work through symbols. The flow of Time is the subject of my paintings.’ – Jean Dometti.
Jean Dometti was born in France in 1950. He has been living and working in Paris since 1970. Widely published and exhibited, Dometti’s works provide an interesting insight into contemporary French art. Dometti’s exhibition at the Bengal Gallery was part of a wider event called ‘A French April’ in Dhaka which comprised two other shows dedicated to prints and printmakers. The exhibition was reciprocated by the presentation of works by twenty Bangladeshi printmakers in Paris in June 2004. Dometti’s show was organised in collaboration with the French Embassy and the Alliance Francaise in Dhaka.
