Introspection
The exhibition showcased watercolours by Swapan Chowdhury. The textured roughness and scars in his paintings are sensitive attempts at portraying the torment and sufferings of people. Swapan travelled extensively to the battlefields and relief-camps during the Liberation War in 1971 and continued to draw and paint despite the extenuating circumstances. The experience greatly influenced his later work.
Swapan Chowdhury (b. 1948, Chittagong) graduated from the Bangladesh College of Arts and Crafts in 1970. He received the Best Award in Oil Painting in the 2nd Young Artists Art Exhibition (1978) and Honourable Mention award in the 13th National Art Exhibition organised by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (1999). A connoisseur of music, he graduated from Chayanaut in 1970, and established Nandan Art School. In 2006 Bengal Foundation produced a 23 min documentary on artist Swapan Chowdhury titled Introspection (directed by Ornob).
