Iffat Ara Dewan 2003

Iffat Ara Dewan’s paintings become quietly meditative and poetic as she records the details of private spaces and personal closeness. One may use the term ‘musical’ in describing the simple yet profound, minimal yet profuse images that come alive on her canvas.
Iffat (b. 1951, Mymensingh) graduated with a major in Economics from the University of Dhaka in 1975. A leading vocalist specializing in the songs of Rabindranath Tagore, Iffat took up painting after training in England at the Byam Shaw School (1992). She has had a dozen solo shows, including two in Paris, and has participated in several group exhibitions.
