Bengal Foundation and the British Council invite you to the opening of the exhibition ‘Dialogues in Coexistence: Shaping Inclusive Public Spaces in the Bengal Delta’ by architects Saiqa Iqbal Meghna and Suvro Sovon Chowdhury at Bengal Shilpalay on Saturday, 27 June 2026, starting at 5 PM.
Mr. Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki M.P., the Honourable State Minister, Ministry of Planning and British Deputy High Commissioner and Development Director to Bangladesh, Mr. James Goldman have confirmed their presence at the event. Ms. Luva Nahid Choudhury, Director-General of Bengal Foundation and Mr. Stephen Forbes, Country Director Bangladesh, British Council will preside over the occasion.
Supported by the British Council as part of the Women of the World Bangladesh 2026 programme, ‘Dialogues in Coexistence’ is an interdisciplinary art–architecture project exploring how feminist ethics, climate responsiveness and public participation can shape more inclusive civic spaces in the Bengal Delta. Through immersive installations and public interventions, the project seeks to foster dialogue around coexistence across gender, community, and ecology. Led by architects Saiqa Iqbal Meghna and Suvro Sovon Chowdhury, and curated by Luva Nahid Choudhury and Wakilur Rahman, the project positions architecture as an act of care — transforming design into an experiential platform for coexistence across gender, community, and ecology.

Saiqa Iqbal Meghna & Suvro Sovon Chowdhury
Born and raised in Dhaka during the 1980s, Saiqa Iqbal Meghna and Suvro Sovon Chowdhury are architects whose work is shaped by social responsibility, civic engagement, and a deep commitment to people and place. Graduates of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), they founded the research-driven practice SthaNiK (স্থাপত্য নির্মাণ কর্ম) in 2008, exploring the relationship between local building traditions and contemporary architectural thinking. In 2014, they expanded their collaborative work through Studio Morphogenesis Ltd.
Their academic journeys span both East and West. Meghna holds a Master’s in Advanced Architecture from the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, Barcelona, while Suvro earned his Master’s from The Bartlett, UCL, London. Alongside practice, both contribute to architectural education, with Meghna teaching at BRAC University and Suvro serving as Guest Faculty at the University of Asia Pacific.
Their work has been widely published in international and national media, including TIME, The Guardian, Dezeen, ArchDaily, Prothom Alo, and The Daily Star. Their projects have received numerous awards, including two IAB Design Awards, the ARCASIA Award, and the RIBA International Award for Excellence 2026. Their acclaimed Zebun Nessa Mosque, featured in TIME’s World’s Greatest Places 2025, exemplifies their approach to climate-responsive, socially inclusive architecture. Based in Dhaka, their practice is guided by the principles of Climate, Context, and Care.

This curatorial narrative traces sixteen years of architectural practice by Saiqa Iqbal Meghna and Suvro Sovon Chowdhury, mapping a philosophy that progresses through four core concepts:
The Bengal Delta as Condition: The work is fundamentally rooted in the mutable landscape of the Bengal Delta, where the ground is defined by water, sediment, and constant transition. Living here means navigating a continuous tension between permanence and impermanence. The architects embrace the cultural impulse of ghor badha—making home amid uncertainty—treating design as a negotiation between anchoring and adaptation, where architecture must learn to live with a shifting environment rather than fight it.
The Practice Philosophy: Emerging from the rapid urbanisation and environmental vulnerabilities of Dhaka, the practice rejects architecture as a neutral act of construction. Instead, it operates as an ethical framework rooted in feminist ethics, egalitarianism, and care. Against a backdrop of social and political transition, the architects position design as a tool for social justice—fostering dignity, reciprocity, and a sense of shared responsibility across gender, community, and ecology.
The Installations as Experiential Manifesto: The exhibition translates this philosophy into monsoon-responsive gallery installations that form a landscape of ‘choreographed encounters’. Utilising customised handcrafted clay tiles, fabric canopies, and bamboo screens, these porous pavilions act as spatial instruments. Rather than static objects, they are living, atmospheric environments that capture and filter rain, light, humidity, and breeze, highlighting making as a collective craft tradition.
The Public Interventions as Social Proposition: Moving beyond the gallery, the project extends into the city by relocating structures into the everyday public realm as temporary shelters, nursing pods, and resting spaces. These interventions serve as a civic ethic in action. By testing how architecture supports inclusion in unpredictable urban settings, the project demonstrates how climate-responsive, gender-inclusive spaces can cultivate collective life and resilient futures.

বঙ্গীয় বদ্বীপে সংস্থাপন
বদ্বীপের ভূমি বা মাটি সাব্যস্ত হয় পানি ও পলির অবিরাম রূপান্তরে| আর ভূপ্রকৃতির সেই পরিবর্তনশীলতার গভীরে প্রোথিত স্থপতিদ্বয় মেঘনা ও শুভ্রর ভাবনা| স্থায়িত্ব ও ভঙ্গুরতার এক নিরন্তর টানাপড়েনের বশবর্তী হয়েই বাংলার বদ্বীপে পথ চলতে হয়| সেখানে ঘোর অনিশ্চয়তার মধ্যে চলে ‘ঘর বাঁধা’র খেলা| এমন এক পরিস্থিতিতে, ভরসা ও অভিযোজনের বোঝাপড়ায় উন্মীলিত হয় স্থপতির পরিকল্পনা ও সৃজন-অন্বেষা, সংঘাত নয়, প্রতিবেশ ও পারিপার্শ্বিককে বরণ করেই স্থাপত্যচিন্তা বিকাশলাভ করে|
চর্চা ও তত্ত্ব
ঢাকার বিনাশী দ্রুত নগরায়ণ এবং ভঙ্গুর বাস্তুসংস্থানের নিরিখে, স্থাপত্য-সংশ্লিষ্ট কোনো কার্যক্রমই যেন নিরপেক্ষ নয়| বরং, একটি নারী-সংবেদী, সমত্ব ও সহমর্মী নীতিকাঠামোর মধ্যে নিহিত চর্চাতেই আস্থাশীল মেঘনা ও শুভ্র| নিয়ত পরিবর্তনশীল সামাজিক ও রাজনৈতিক পরিবৃত্তে তাঁরা স্থাপত্যসৃজনকে সমাজ-সুনীতি ও ন্যায়বত্তার পন্থা হিসেবে উপস্থাপন করেন, যা গোষ্ঠী, সম্প্রদায়, লিঙ্গ ও বাস্তুসংস্থানের জমিন জুড়ে মর্যাদায়, পারস্পরিকতায় ও অংশীদারিত্বে পরিস্ফুট হয়|
স্থাপনাশিল্প এক সংবেদীয় ইশতেহার
বর্তমান প্রদর্শনীতে বর্ষা-সহিষ্ণু একাধিক স্থাপনাশিল্পে স্থপতিরা তাঁদের সৃজনভাবনা উপস্থাপন করেছেন এমন এক বিশেষ রীতিতে, যা প্রদর্শনশালায় বহুস্তরীয় সংযোগে বিন্যস্ত নতুন এক ভূদৃশ্যের অবতারণা করেছে| সেখানে হাতে ˆতরি মাটির টালি, ছাউনি এবং বাঁশের দরমার মতো ভেদ্য, ঝাঁঝর উপকরণ দিয়ে নির্মিত প্যাভিলিয়নগুলো স্থানিক অনুষঙ্গ হিসেবে কাজ করে| প্যাভিলিয়নগুলো কেবল নির্জীব স্থাপনা নয়, বরং বাতাস, বৃষ্টি, আলো ও র্আদ্রতার মধ্যে তারা পরিব্যাপ্ত এবং এভাবেই প্রতিবেশকে ধারণ ও বিশোধন করে| এভাবেই ‘গড়ার’ প্রক্রিয়াটি হয়ে উঠেছে গহন এক সৃজনপ্রয়াস|
জনপরিসরে মধ্যবর্তিতা
প্রদর্শনশালার গণ্ডি ছাড়িয়ে, ‘সহাবস্থানের স্থাপত্য’ প্রকল্পটি শহরের বুকে বিস্তৃত| প্রদর্শনী থেকে নির্বাচিত কিছু স্থাপনা সাময়িক আশ্রয়স্থল, ব্রেস্টফিডিং বা নার্সিং পড এবং বিশ্রামের জায়গা হিসেবে গণপরিসরে স্থান পাবে| এই উদ্যোগ মূলত নাগরিক নীতিবোধকে সক্রিয় করতে এবং একটি অনিশ্চিত, অনির্ণেয় নগর-পরিবেশে স্থাপত্য-মধ্যবর্তিতা কীভাবে অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক ভাবনাকে জাগিয়ে তুলতে পারে, তা নিরীক্ষা করার প্রয়াস|
‘সহাবস্থানের স্থাপত্য’ প্রকল্পটি আমাদের পথ দেখায়, কীভাবে সংবেদনশীল স্থাপত্যচর্চা-প্রসূত জলবায়ু-সহনীয়, লিঙ্গ-সংবেদী ও সর্বজনীন গণপরিসর একটি সজীব, প্রাণোচ্ছল সমাজ ও টেকসই ভবিষ্যৎকে লালন করতে সক্ষম|
