Ebru – Clouds in Infinity

The Turkish word Ebru, meaning clouds, describes an artist’s inner world. The technique of Ebru or marbling, also known as ‘water-surface painting’, is an art form that was practiced in Central Asia in the 15th century. It is used to express the search for the Divine within one’s own self. To the faithful, the practice of Ebru lends strength and creates a deeper understanding of the inner self.
Hikmet Barutçugil’s work in Ebru has been exhibited worldwide. A longstanding researcher and practitioner, he has developed his own style known as Barut-Ebru.
