Castles in the Sky

A memorial exhibition was held at the Bengal Art Lounge to commemorate the life of late Sohrab Rahman Khan, son, father, professor and beloved friend. The exhibition, titled ‘Castles in the Sky’, was open to the public from 11 – 25 October daily from 12 – 6 PM. The gallery also organised a musical soiree, containing a performance by Anusheh, dedicated to the artist, on the second day of the exhibition. The exhibition was concluded by a lantern ceremony. Sohrab Rahman Khan painted all throughout his short life. Through the many turns along his path, he was never without his canvases and brushes; pens, charcoals and water colours. Painting was meditation to him – a way to escape the mundane and inhabit spaces that were sometimes microscopic and sometimes cosmic. He painted frenetically, and would complete large canvases overnight, often forgetting to apply the finishing touches before starting a new one. He never exhibited his work, and rarely signed his canvases. He began many but finished few, he would say.
A university teacher in his professional life, Sohrab Rahman Khan was above all a man with tremendous ideals. He imagined a better word and believed in his ability to make one possible, to which end he always tried to inspire and educate others, a quality that he will be well remembered for.
