Papa’s jewelry stands out for its intricate design and imaginative evocation of ordinary patterns. Drawn from American Indian and African traditions, her creative juxtaposition of beads of different colours lends a tactile quality to her work.
A graduate of the Institute of Fine Arts, Dhaka University, Papa (b. 1954) later received a masters in Mural Design from the M S University of Baroda, India (1978). She has had a number of expositions in Dhaka and in Boston, USA. In addition to attending workshops in printmaking in Bangladesh and Germany, she received professional training in leather and metalwork, embroidery and doll making, batik, bead making and bead jewelry. Papa is a freelance artist living in Dhaka.
