Ephemeral: Perennial
Bengal Foundation welcomed you to the inauguration of ‘ephemeral : perennial’ , an exhibition of performance art, as follow up to the week-long Performance Art week 2016 which featured live performances of 20 artists.
Educationist Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam and art critic Professor Md. Abul Monsur jointly inaugurated the exhibition as Guests of Honour on 6th January at the Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct at 5:30pm.
The exhibition was featured at two venues: Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct and Gyantapas Abdur Razzaq Bidyapeeth. The show continued until 25th February 2017, everyday from 11 AM to 7 PM.
The exhibition presented photographs, video footage and objects featured in the Performance Art Week. The artists were: Palash Bhattacharjee, Joydeb Roaja, Jewel A Rob, Hasna Hena Porosh, Sanad Kumar Biswas, Sharkar Nasrin Toontoon, Nazia Andaleeb Preema, Arpita Singha Lopa, Efat Razowana Reya, Sumana Akter, Reetu Sattar, Niloofar Chaman, Waley Jaff, Meherun Akter, Atish Saha, Emran Sohel, Afsana Sharmin, Farah Naz Moon, Sanjay Chakraborty and Ashim Halder Sagor.
The event was organised with an aim to look into the multiple complexities of this ephemeral medium through discussions, performances and exhibitions. What role does it play in cultural and political activism as opposed to white-cube spaces? How do artists materialise this non-material art? How does this medium contribute to the evolution of new languages? These are some of the questions that the art week sought to answer.
