Bangla-English Literary Translation Workshop at ULAB

The Dhaka Translation Center (DTC) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) held a 5-day Bangla-English Literary Translation Workshop starting from November 15. Professor Imran Rahman, Vice Chancellor of ULAB, inaugurated the workshop.
British Centre for Literary Translation, Commonwealth Writers and English PEN organised this workshop in partnership. Ten participants have been selected to participate in the workshop, which is being led by the award-winning Indian literary translator Arunava Sinha.
Speakers at the workshop included Emma D’ Costa of Commonwealth Writers; Fakrul Alam, Professor of English at the University of Dhaka; Kate Griffin, International Programme Director at the British Centre for Literary Translation; Khademul Islam, Editor of Bengal Lights Books and Kaisar Haq.
Participants worked on a consensus translation of a short story by Bangladeshi writer Shaheen Akhtar, who was present during the sessions.
