Classical music recital

Khairul Anam Shakil is a noted Nazrul Sangeet exponent who gave a sterling performance of Indian classical music at the Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct, on 20 June, 2014. He opened with a Bara Kheyal in Raga Bihag. After improvisations through alap and taankari, the recital was brought to a close by a piece in Teentaal. The second number was a rendition of Raga Rageshri in Teental. It was followed by a recital in Drut Ektaal. Iftekhar Alam Prodhan and Bijon Chandra Mistri provided able accompaniment in the tabla and the harmonium, respectively. The tanpura was played by RuksanaKarim.

The programmes being held at the Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct are organised by the Bengal Foundation to mark ‘Second Sight’, an exhibition of the works of SM Sultan, from the private collection of AbulKhair. The readings, discussions and music recitals are designed to gain a deeper understanding of the philosophy and works of legendary artist S M Sultan. ‘Second Sight’ is open for viewing until 13 July, from 12 to 8 PM everyday, except Sundays.
