The Mastercraftspersons Award was initiated in 1989 by the National Crafts Council of Bangladesh with the objective of reviving traditional crafts, recognizing the value of the artisan and encouraging others to follow tradition.

Since 2010, National Crafts Council of Bangladesh and Bengal Foundation have jointly organized the Mastercraftspersons Award and a Crafts Fair.

The honourable Commerce Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Mr. GM Quader, MP, had kindly consented to be the Chief Guest to give away the Mastercraftspersons Awards and inaugurated the three-day Crafts Fair at the Bangla Academy premises at 11:00 on Friday 11 January 2013.

Eminent writer Ms. Selina Hossain and Folklore specialist and Director-General of Bangla Academy Dr. Shamsuzzaman Khan were present as Special Guests.
