Samarjit Roy Chowdhury is one of the most renowned contemporary Bangladeshi artists. On February 10, the veteran artist turned 75. On the occasion, Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts hosted a celebration for the artist at Bengal Café in Dhanmondi. Qayyum Chowdhury, Syed Jahangir, Rafiqun Nabi, Monirul Islam, Abu Taher, Begum Jahanara Abedin (widow of Jahanara Abedin), Subir Chowdhury, director of Bengal Gallery; Abul Khair, chairman of Bengal Foundation; NGO activist Khushi Kabir, artists— Matlub Ali, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, Ranjit Das, Mohammad Shamsudohha, Sheikh Afzal, Mohammad Iqbal, Anisuzzaman, Maksuda Iqbal Nipa; among others, wished him at the programme. Tagore artistes Shama Rahman, Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Bulbul Islam and Adity Mohsin performed at the programme emceed by Subir Chowdhury. At the programme, Qayyum Chowdhury unveiled a DVD on the artist titled “Shilpi Samarjit Roy Chowdhury-r Srijon Bhuban: Alor Bhuban Bhora”
