Great Masters of Bangladesh: Safiuddin Ahmed

Bengal Foundation has partnered with Skira Editore in Milan, Italy, one of the oldest and most prestigious publishing houses in the world of fine art books to bring out a special series showcasing Bangladesh’s contribution to art history and the international art scene. These artworks represent a complete selection of contemporary creativity in this country, much of which is a part of Bengal Foundation’s permanent collection.
Among the great painters, Safiuddin Ahmed is best known as a pioneer in printmaking as well as for his role in establishing Dhaka Government Institute of Art and Crafts (now Faculty of Fine Arts) with Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin and others. Deeply immersed in the world of art, he ardently eluded a public life. Throughout his journey as a painter of about 70 years he participated in a few exhibitions amongst which there were only 5 solo shows. He sold very few of his paintings. We are therefore honored to launch the first book of the Great Masters Series ‘Great Masters of Bangladesh: Safiuddin Ahmed’ with a rare and exciting collection of this reclusive and yet prolific painter on Tuesday February 7, 2012 at 5.30 pm at Bengal Shilpalaya.
Justice Muhammad Habibur Rahman has graciously consented to be the Chief Guest at the occasion and Professor Emeritus
Dr. Anissuzzaman was also present as the Special Guest.
