We are deeply saddened by the passing of painter Atia Islam Anne
We are deeply saddened by the passing of painter Atia Islam Anne. A powerful, fearless, and distinct voice in Bangladesh’s art community, her departure leaves an irreplaceable void.
At Bengal Foundation, we had the opportunity to work closely with the artist. In addition to her participation in several art camps and group exhibitions, many will remember her solo exhibition, “Inauspicious Time,” which was held in 2009 at the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts—a brilliant showcase of Anne’s sharp satire, social commentary, and masterful surrealism.
More recently, two of her remarkable works from the Bengal Collection were showcased in the group exhibition “The Other Voice”, in December 2025. Her presence in that space, as always, brought immense depth, courage, and inspiration to everyone who encountered her art.
Atia Islam Anne challenged boundaries, gave form to the unspoken, and inspired many contemporary artists.
Our deepest condolences go out to her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched through her extraordinary journey.
