Bengal Classical Music Festival 2015 Opens Amid Festivity and Enthusiasm

The annual Bengal Classical Music Festival organized by the Bengal foundation commenced for 2015 to go on for five nights. The festival began at 7 pm on November 27 at the Army Stadium. This year’s festival started off with a Bharatnatyam by Pallavi Dance Center directed by Minu Haque. The performers in the dance group were A.B.M Shahidul Islam, Anik Bose, Antu Majumder, Dip Narayan Roy, Dipaboli Modak, Farah Diva Rahman, Hasibul Hasan, Kasturi Mukherjee, Md. Emdadul Haque, Md. Mamun Khan, Md. Nure Alam Chandon, Mita Biswas, Mondira Kure, Moon Moon Biswas, Nasirul Islam, Naznin Alam, Salma Begum, Rumpa Biswas, Saiful Islam Evan, Smita Dey, Subrata Kumar Das, Tofayel Ahmed and Oindrila Chakraborty. Human rights activist Sultana Kamal handed over the crest to Minu Haque after the performance.

Following their performance, there was Tabla Kirtan by the young students of Bengal Parampara Sangeetalay. The Parampara tabla performers included Supantho Mojumder, M J J Bhoobaun, Pancham Sanyal, Fahmida Nazneem, Chinmoy Bhowmik, Mir Naqibul Islam, Nusrat-E-Jahan, Prashanta Bhowmik and Ajay Joglekar.  After the performance crests were handed over to them by the Chairman of Bengal Foundation, Abul Khair and Minister, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Asaduzzaman Noor.

The third performance was a Dhrupad by the music department of Rajshahi University which was directed by the professor of the music department, Dr. Asit Roy assisted by Associate Professor Sholok Hossain. Animika Sarker, Arpita Chakraberty, Humayun Kabir, Monish Biswas, Suvendu Sarkar, Mousumi Biswas, and Tanusree Sen. Lecturer of the music department, Alamgir Parvez performed Pakhowaj. The first group performance was a Raag Malkosh.

The festival was officially inaugurated by Honourable Finance Minister of the Government of Bangladesh, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, as the Chief Guest of the event. Among the other special guests were Managing Director of Square Toiletries Ltd. Anjan Chowdhury; CEO and Managing Director of BRAC Bank Ltd. Selim R F Hussain; and Chief Operating Officer of Robi Axiata Limited Mahtab Uddin Ahmed. The first speech was given by the Chairman of Bengal Foundation, Abul Khair. He said, “The Honourable Prime Minister, herself, gave her consent regarding the five day event. We are extremely grateful to her for this. We are also grateful to the audience for being the best in the world.”

Finance Minister, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said, “The evolution of culture also shows the evolution of the tastes of a society. This type of arrangement will develop the taste and mindsets of the participants. For the last four years I have been inaugurating this event which has been a matter of joy for me.” Cultural Minister, Asaduzzaman Noor said, “One doesn’t need to be a classical music aficionado to enjoy this music. I keep coming back because I enjoy it.” Special guest, Square Toiletries Managing Director, Anjan Chowdhury said, “The people’s minds are at peace when they have a vibrant cultural sector to focus on. This is the impression I get every time I come to this annual event”. Salim R F Hossain, CEO and Managing Director of BRAC Bank said, “The biggest classical music festival of the world will encourage the development of more artists in the same vein.” Robi Axiata’s CEO Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said, “The performances of the young artists show that they are on the right track of learning. Soon they will represent Bangladesh in front of the entire world.”

Following the inauguration ceremony, Jayaprada Ramamurthy performed on the Carnatic flute. She performed Raaga Hagshadhwani and Hindolom. Followed by that were the performance of Tagore’s tune in the raga Behag, raaga Aahir  Bhairav and  the composition of the song “esho shyamolo shundaro” in Raaga Desh. The performance ended with a southern Raaga Bhagyoda Lakshmi. The support performers were Subhash Chala (flute), Chakrapani Gangulakurthi (violin) and Bala Subrahmanyan Parupali (mridangam).

The audience can enjoy quality food and beverages at the festival from Yellow Submarine Café, Meena Sweets, Bengal Café, Kabab Ghaar, etc. Other stalls are offering ICE Media magazines and books published by Bengal Publications, Daily Star Books and Prothoma. Aranya, Bengal Café, the Bengal Film Development Forum and BRAC Bank ATMs are also present at the festival grounds. Journalists should be pleased to find the WiFi zone just for them.

The following day’s event will start at 7pm and continue till 5am in the morning. The second day will include performances by Abhijit Kundu (Dhrupad), Jayanti Kumaresh (Sarswati Veena), Sushmita Debnath (Kheyal, Bengal Parampara), Pandit Uday Bhawalkar (Dhrupad), Pandit Suresh Talwarkar (Tabla solo), Dr. Balmurali Krishna (Carnatac Music) with Pandit Ronu Majumdar on flute and Subhayu Sen Majumdar (Esraj) and Pandit Ajoy Chakroborty (Khayal).

The festival is being organized by Bengal Foundation and presented by Square group, supported by BRAC Bank Ltd, powered by Robi Axiata Ltd. ICE Today, ICE Business Times, Bengal Barota are the media partners, with Maasranga TV (Bangladesh) as the broadcast partner. Le Meridian Dhaka is the hospitality partner, Bengal Parampara Sangeetalay and Bengal Digital are associating the event. Overall support provided by Perfect Harmony Production Singapore along with Blues Communications in charge of event management.

For the last three years, the Bengal Classical Music Festival has been the largest classical music event in the subcontinent showcasing performances from over two hundred classically trained singers and dancers. With the goal to popularize and perpetuate the practice of classical music, this festival will go on till December 2^nd. The event is dedicated to late artist, Qayyum Chowdhury.

শুরু হলো বঙ্গেল উচ্চাঙ্গসংগীত উৎসব ২০১৫-

এর প্রথম দিনের আয়োজন বেঙ্গেল ফাউন্ডশেনরে আয়োজনে চর্তুথবাররে মতো শুরু হলো পাঁচ দনিব্যাপী র্বাষকি বঙ্গেল উচ্চাঙ্গসংগীত উৎসব। ২৭ নভম্বের শুক্রবার সন্ধ্যা ৭টায় বনানীর র্আমি স্টডেয়িামে মনিু হকরে পরচিালনায় পল্লবী ড্যান্স সন্টোররে ভরতনাট্যম নৃত্য পরবিশেনরে মধ্য দয়িে শুরু হয় প্রথম দনিরে অনুষ্ঠান। নৃত্য পরবিশেনায় অংশগ্রহণ করনে এ. ব.ি এম. শহদিুল ইসলাম, অনকি বোস, অন্তু মজুমদার, দীপ নারায়ণ রায়, দপিাবলী মোদক, ফারাহ্ দবিা রহমান, হাসবিুল হাসান, কস্তুরি মুর্খাজী, মোঃ এমদাদুল হক, মোঃ মামুন খান, মোঃ নূরে আলম চন্দন, মতিা বশ্বিাস, মন্দরিা কুড়,ি মুনমুন বশ্বিাস, নাসরিুল ইসলাম, নাজনীন আলম, ঐন্দ্রলিা চক্রর্বতী, রুম্পা বশ্বিাস, সাইফুল ইসলাম, সালমা বগেম, স্মতিা দ,ে সুব্রত কুমার দাস এবং তোফায়লে আহমদে। পরবিশেনা শষেে মানবাধকিার র্কমী সুলতানা কামাল পল্লবী ডান্স সন্টোররে পরচিালক মনিু হকরে হাতে উৎসব স্মারক তুলে দনে। তারপর পণ্ডতি সুরশে তালওয়ালকাররে তত্ত্বাবধানে বঙ্গেল পরম্পরা সংগীতালয়রে শক্ষর্িাথী চন্মিয় ভৌমকি, ফাহমদিা নাজনীন, এম জে জসোস ভুবন, মীর নকবিুল ইসলাম, নুসরাত ই জাহান, পঞ্চম স্যানাল, প্রশান্ত ভৌমকি এবং সুপান্থ মজুমদার পরবিশেন করনে তবলা র্কীতন। তাদরে সঙ্গে হারমোনয়িামে লহরা বাজয়িছেনে অজয় যোগলকের। পরবিশেনা শষেে বঙ্গেল পরম্পরা সংগীতালয়রে শক্ষর্িাথীদরে হাতে উৎসব স্মারক তুলে দনে বঙ্গেল ফাউন্ডশেনরে চয়োরম্যান আবুল খায়রে এবং সংস্কৃতমিন্ত্রী আসাদুজ্জামান নূর, এম প।ি তৃতীয় পরবিশেনা ছলিো রাজশাহী বশ্বিবদ্যিালয়রে সঙ্গীত বভিাগরে ধ্রুপদ। পরবিশেনাটি পরচিালনা করনে সঙ্গীত বভিাগরে অধ্যাপক ড. অসতি রায়, পরচিালকরে সহযোগী হসিবেে ছলিনে সহকারি অধ্যাপক শলোক হোসনে। ধ্রুপদ পরবিশেনায় ছলিনে অনামকিা সরকার, র্অপতিা চক্রর্বতী, হুমায়ূন কবীর, মনশি বশ্বিাস, মৌসুমী বশ্বিাস, শুভন্দেু সরকার এবং তনুশ্রী সনে। তাদরে সঙ্গে পাখওয়াজে সংগত করনে সংগীত বভিাগরে লকেচারার আলমগীর পারভজে। প্রথম পরবিশেনা ছলিো দলীয় কণ্ঠে রাগ মালকোশ। এরপর আলাপ জোড় আর ঝালা যোগে চৌতালে পরবিশেন করনে সনাতন ধ্রুপদ ’জয়তি জয়তি শ্রী গণশে’। সুলতালে বাঁধা পররে গানটওি সনাতন ধ্রুপদ ‘শঙ্কর গীরজিাপত। গণপ্রজাতন্ত্রী বাংলাদশে সরকাররে মাননীয় র্অথমন্ত্রী আবুল মাল আবদুল মুহতি প্রধান অতথিি হসিবেে উপস্থতি থকেে বঙ্গেল উচ্চাঙ্গসংগীত উৎসবরে আনুষ্ঠানকি উদ্বোধন ঘোষণা করবনে। বশিষে অতথিি হসিবেে উপস্থতি থাকবনে গণপ্রজাতন্ত্রী বাংলাদশে সরকাররে মাননীয় সংস্কৃতমিন্ত্রী আসাদুজ্জামান নূর, এমপ।ি এছাড়া বশিষে অতথিি হসিবেে আরও উপস্থতি থাকবনে স্কয়ার টয়লট্রেজি লমিটিডেরে ব্যবস্থাপনা পরচিালক অঞ্জন চৌধুরী, ব্র্যাক ব্যাংক লমিটিডেরে ব্যবস্থাপনা পরচিালক ও প্রধান নর্বিাহী র্কমর্কতা সলেমি আর.এফ. হোসনে এবং রবি আজয়িাটা লমিটিডেরে চীফ অপারটেংি অফসিার মাহতাব উদ্দনি আহমদে। প্রথম দনিরে আয়োজনে এছাড়াও সঙ্গীত পরবিশেন করবনে জয়াপ্রদা রামর্মূতি (র্কণাটকি বাঁশ)ি, রাহুল র্শমা (সন্তুর), কৌশকিী চক্রর্বতী (খয়োল), পণ্ডতি কুশল দাস (সতোর) এবং বদিুষী বম্বে জয়শ্রী (র্কণাটকি সংগীত)। সংগীত উপভোগ করার পাশাপাশি শ্রোতাদরে জন্য খাবার ও পানীয়রে ব্যবস্থা রয়ছেে উৎসব প্রাঙ্গণ।ে এছাড়া বভিন্নি স্টলে পাওয়া যাবে আইস মডিয়িার ম্যাগাজনি, বঙ্গেল পাবলকিশেনস এর বই ও বঙ্গেল মউিজকি কোম্পানরি সডি।ি রয়ছেে ডইেলি স্টার বুকস এবং প্রথমা। অনুষ্ঠান প্রাঙ্গণে আরো রয়ছেে অরণ্য, বঙ্গেল ক্যাফ,ে বঙ্গেল চলচ্চত্রি উন্নয়ন ফোরাম। আছে ব্র্যাক ব্যাংকরে এটএিম বুথ। সাংবাদকিদরে জন্য রয়ছেে ওয়াইফাই জোন। আগামীকাল শনবিার দ্বতিীয় দনিরে উৎসব শুরু হবে সন্ধ্যা ৭টায়। চলবে পরদনি ভোর ৫টা ১০ মনিটি র্পযন্ত। দ্বতিীয় দনিরে উৎসবে অংশ নবেনে অভজিৎি কুণ্ডু (ধ্রুপদ), জয়ন্তী কুমারশে (সরস্বতী বীণা), সুস্মতিা দবেনাথ (খয়োল, বঙ্গেল পরম্পরা), পণ্ডতি উদয় ভাওয়ালকার (ধ্রুপদ), পণ্ডতি সুরশে তালওয়ালকার (একক তবলা), ড.বালমুরালী কৃষ্ণ (র্কণাটকী সংগীত) ও তার সঙ্গে বাঁশতিে থাকবনে পণ্ডতি রণু মজুমদার, শুভায়ূ সনে মজুমদার (এস্রাজ) এবং পণ্ডতি অজয় চক্রর্বতী খয়োল)। বঙ্গেল ফাউন্ডশেন আয়োজতি বঙ্গেল উচ্চাঙ্গসংগীত উৎসব ২০১৫- এর নবিদেক স্কয়ার গ্রুপ। আয়োজন সর্মথন করছে ব্র্যাক ব্যাংক লমিটিডে। উৎসব পাওয়ারড বাই রবি আজয়িাটা লমিটিডে। অনুষ্ঠানরে সম্প্রচার সহযোগী মাছরাঙা টলেভিশিন। মডিয়িা র্পাটনার আইস বজিনসে টাইমস, আইস টুডে ও বঙ্গেল বারতা। আতথিয়েতা সহযোগী হসিবেে আছে লা মরেডিয়িান ঢাকা। সহযোগতিায় বঙ্গেল পরম্পরা সংগীতালয় ও সৌজন্যে বঙ্গেল ডজিটিাল। র্সাবকি সহযোগতিায় পারফক্টে হারমনি প্রোডাকশন, সঙ্গিাপুর। ইভন্টে ব্যবস্থাপনা ব্লুজ কমউিনকিশেনস। এবাররে উৎসবটি উৎর্সগ করা হয়ছেে বরণ্যে শল্পিী কাইয়ুম চৌধুরীক। গত তনি বছর ধরে আয়োজতি বঙ্গেল উচ্চাঙ্গ সংগীত উৎসব শল্পিী ও র্দশকদরে অংশগ্রহণরে নরিখিে এরই মধ্যে এই উপমহাদশেরে তথা বশ্বিরে র্সবাধকি বড় পরসিররে উচ্চাঙ্গসংগীতরে আসর হসিবেে স্বীকৃতি পয়েছে।ে প্রায় দুইশ জন সংগীত ও নৃত্যশল্পিী এবার অংশ নচ্ছিনে আয়োজন।
