This exhibition was built around a selection of works by artists who have accompanied the gallery since the beginning of its journey. Proposing to (re) discover works by Monirul Islam, Qayyum Chowdhury, Rokeya Sultana, Dhali Al Mamoon, Syed Jahangir, Niamul Bari, MM Maiz, Mustafa Jamil Akbar Shamim, Maksuda Iqbal Nipa, Vinita Karim, Wakilur Rahman, Ranjit Das, Mohammad Hasanur Rahman, Salzar Rahman, Jon Den Hartigh, Preema Nazia Andaleeb. 2011-2014, A Retrospective gives a fascinating insight into today’s art practice in Bangladesh.
True to the gallery’s endeavor to create connections between new and established forms of artistic expression, this retrospective refutes traditional categories. Art works by young seeds and seasoned masters dialogue irrespective of style, genre or school of influence. In particular, a room specifically dedicated to drawings illustrates how charcoal, ink and pencil all contribute to the diversity of a medium in perpetual reinvention.
2011-2014, A Retrospective was open for viewing from Saturday 20 to Tuesday 30 September and was open daily from 12 to 8. A surprise anniversary event was held on Saturday 27 September.
