Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts hosted a two-week long solo exhibition titled, ‘Pathos’ by artist Ranjit Das. Eminent educationist Dr. Borhanuddin Khan Jahangir was present as the Chief Guest and inaugurated the exhibition. Noted industrialist Anjan Chowdhury, Director of Square Group, was present as the Special Guest.

In the eighties, Ranjit spent some time in Baroda in the company of his mentor K G Subramanyan. This left a lasting impression in his development as an artist. With the Grand Prize in the 7th Asian Art Biennale in 1995, he received recognition as an artist of outstanding creativity. Other prizes that followed include the Best Award (Painting) at the 8th Young Artists Art Exhibition (1988), Honourable Mention Award at the 9th National Art Exhibition, Dhaka (1990).
By virtue of a certain mode of application, some of Ranjit Das’ (b. 1956, Tangail) acrylics emit the translucency of watercolours. His drawing took on a special fullness in the exhibition. Yet it is not just skill, technique and style of work that distinguishes Ranjit as an artist. Above all, it is in the direct play of emotions that is evoked, that makes his work singular. He retired as a teacher of the Teacher’s Training College, Dhaka, in 2010.

নিরীক্ষাপ্রবণ ও পরিবর্তনপ্রয়াসী শিল্পী রনজিৎ দাসের সৃজনভূমিতে বাংলাদেশের মানুষের দুঃখ-কষ্ট আনন্দ-বেদনাকে খুব সহজেই শনাক্ত করা যায়। প্রতিনিয়ত তিনি কাজ করেন এবং তাঁর নির্মাণ ও সৃষ্টিতে জীবনচেতনা ও সময়ের উত্তাপ লগ্ন হয়ে থাকে। তাঁর চিত্রে প্রতিবাদ আছে, সেইসঙ্গে আছে করুণ এক বিষণ্ন সুর। এই দুটি বিষয় তাঁর সৃষ্টিতে জ্বলজ্বল করে। ১৯৮১ সালে বরোদা থেকে মাস্টার্স ডিগ্রি অর্জন করার পর তাঁর কাজের ধারা সম্পূর্ণ পাল্টে যায়। তেল ও অ্যাক্রিলিকের ব্যবহারেও এই সময় থেকে তিনি সহজ দক্ষতা অর্জন করেন। বরোদার শিল্পচৈতন্য ও শিক্ষা তাঁর চিত্রাদর্শে নবীন মাত্রা সংযোজন করে। জ্যামিতিক অবয়ব গঠনের শৃঙ্খলা এবং একই পটে ভিন্ন ভিন্ন বিষয়ের অবতারণা তাঁর চিত্রের গুণ হয়ে ওঠে। প্রকৃতির অন্তর্লীন সৌন্দর্য এবং নক্ষত্রখচিত রাত্রিও তাঁর চিত্রের বিষয় হয়ে ওঠে। রনজিৎ দাসের চিত্রে বিশ্বস্তভাবে সমকালীন জীবন চেতনার প্রতিফলন ঘটে বলে কখনো তাঁকে প্রতিবাদী বলেও মনে হয়। এই লক্ষণই রনজিৎ দাসকে তাঁর প্রজন্মের এক বিশিষ্ট শিল্পীতে পরিণত করেছে। বেঙ্গল গ্যালারি আয়োজিত।
