Feminine

Lipi operates away from the commonplace and the predictable. In Feminine she led the spectator to a world of an uncomfortable splendour where female images, in fragments or entirety, presented an extrinsic seductiveness and bizarre relationship with the whole. A founder trustee of Britto Arts Trust and a cultural activist, Lipi (b. 1969, Gaibandha) is an advocate of alternative art. She did an MFA from the Institute of Fine Arts, Dhaka, in 1993. Lipi received the Grand Prize at the 11th Asian Art Biennale in 2004. The artist has conducted numerous workshops and has participated in many international workshops. She took part in residencies at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (2000), Gallery 68-elf, Cologne, Germany (2000), Myanmar National Workshops for Arts and Crafts (2004), and Gasworks Residency Programme, London (2005). Her work, along with four others of Britto, has been exhibited in the Bangladesh pavillion Parables, at the Venice Binnale. This signals Bangladesh’s first ever participation in an important venue such as the Venice Biennale.
