Ali Asgar explores the issues of gender identity, masculinity, and the socio-cultural concerns that relate to gender practice of men in a heteronormative society. Exploring different contemporary media for years, performance art has heightened his confidence in making conscious aesthetic choice as an artist. Ali does not view art as a catalyst for the transformation of society. Rather, he sees art as a reflection of a society, which can be used to identify and delineate people’s beliefs and personal histories. Ali earned a BFA in Printmaking from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, in 2015 and has participated in numerous exhibitions including Dhaka Art Summit, Asian Art Biennale, and various group exhibitions at the Dhaka Art Center, Bengal Foundation, and others.
