Shubha Mudgal

Shubha Mudgal is a renowned Indian vocalist of Hindustani classical music, Khayal, Thumri, Dadra, and Indian Pop music. She attended St. Mary's Convent Inter College and began training in the Kathak. Mudgal’s first traditional training was under the guidance of Pandit Ramashreya Jha and she continued her musical education from Pandit Vinaya Chandra Mudgalya and Pandit Vasant Thakar. She also informally trained under other established singers such as Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki, Naina Devi and Pandit Kumar Gandharva.
Mudgal began performing as a Hindustani classical singer since the 1980s but eventually began experimenting with other genres of music, including pop and fusion. She was awarded with the Padma Shri, National Film Award for Best Non-Feature Film Music Direction, and Gold Plaque Award for Special Achievement in Music at the 34th Chicago International Film Festival.
