Allarakha Kalawant

Alla Rakha received training from his maternal grandfather, Ustad Imamuddin Khan. He later shifted to Ahmedabad and started learning from noted sitar player Vidushi Manju Mehta. He is a significant name amongst the musicians of his generation, who is known for his disciplined improvisation and thoughtful alap. Alla Rakha has many awards and accolades to his credit; a Scholarship from the Sangeet Natak Akademi and first prize at the All India Radio competition in 1995. He is currently a faculty member of the ITC Sangeet Research Academy.
