We mourn the passing away of Sitar maestro Ustad Rais Khan. He breathed his last in Karachi, Pakistan, on Saturday 6 May. Rais Khan was born to a family of musicians, in the Indian city of Indore on November 25, 1939. He started learning music from an early age.
Rais Khan was brilliant at playing the Sitar. His maternal grandfather Inayat Ali Khan was also considered one of the finest Sitar players in the subcontinent. His son Farhan Raees now excels in the art. Ustad Rais Khan was awarded Pride of Performance by the government of Pakistan.
