Bengal Foundation mourns the passing of Syed Abdullah Khalid. The iconic sculptor and painter, best known for his work ‘Aparajeyo Bangla’, was born in Sylhet and went on to complete his Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting in 1969 from the Govt. College of Arts and Crafts, presently known as the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka; and his MFA from University of Chittagong in 1974. Khalid later joined the sculpture department at the University of Dhaka as lecturer and went to retirement as professor. The artist was honoured with the Ekushey Padak in 2017 for his immense contribution to the arts.
Syed Abdullah Khalid passed away at Birdem Hospital on 20 May 2017 around 11:45 PM. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
