As a long standing friend of the Bengal Foundation, we are deeply saddened by the news of Sudhin Das’s passing.
Sudhin Das was a distinguished musician and Nazrul researcher. He received his training in music at Sangeet Shikhharthee Sammilan in Comilla and was eventually enlisted as an artist in Radio Pakistan in 1948. After the death of Kazi Nazrul Islam, Das documented original notations of Nazrul's music with the help of his wife, Neelima Das. He joined as a member of the Nazrul Sangeet Promanikoron Board at Nazrul Institute in 1985, and also taught Nazrul Sangeet to the young artists from the Institute. The Nazrul Academy published his first book with the original notations of 25 Nazrul Sangeet in 1985 and published 33 more books over the years.
Das had received several awards for his contribution to music and research. He is a recipient of the Ekushey Padak, Nazrul Padak, Churulia Nazrul Academy's Nazrul Award, Shaheed Altaf Mahmood Memorial Gold Medal, amongst others.
Sudhin Das passed away at the Apollo Hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday, 27 June 2017.
