Renowned artist and filmmaker Khalid Mahmood Mithu passed away on Monday, 7 March 2016, in a tragic accident at the Dhanmmondi area in Dhaka.
He earned his post-graduate degree in Fine Arts from the University of Dhaka in 1986. He directed the play Dhusor Album in 1993 and his 2010 film, Gohine Shobdo, earned him the National Film Award. His second film Jonakir Alo was selected as the Bangladeshi entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2014.
Mithu had a long and surviving relationship with Bengal Foundation. He was married to distinguished artist Kanak Chanpa Chakma, and is survived by son, Arjo Srestha, and daughter, Shiropa Purna.
