Luva Nahid Choudhury, Director General of Bengal Foundation and Editor of Jal Pore Pata Nore, spoke at the launching ceremony of six new books published in braille by Sporsho at the Ekushey Granthamela 2016. Choudhury emphasised on the need for change in publishers’ mind-set regarding the visually impaired. She said, ‘It is not a difficult process getting books published in braille. Out of all the books published every year, keeping the visually challenged in mind, if we publish as little as one or two books every year, it is a step forward in building a better future.’
The monthly children’s periodical, Jal Pore Pata Nore, has been publishing braille versions of the magazine since its inception back in 2012. Braille copies of the magazine were available for free to visually impaired children during the entirety of Ekushey Granthamela 2016.
